Nick Price

Nick started his career in sales recruitment with HMS in 1991 and moved to Elan Computing Ltd a year later where he worked in permanent IT recruitment. In 1995 he co-founded Edinburgh-based Careercare which evolved into Bright Purple Resourcing.

Nick leads from the front, inducing passion, innovation and good humour in the team around him. He has also led the diversification of Bright Purple from being solely an IT recruitment firm to one that now also specialises in high end placements for the financial services industry. He is committed to setting the highest industry standards for Bright Purple, focused on nurturing great people and raising standards across the recruitment industry.

Along with his key role at Bright Purple, Nick is also on the board of ScotlandIS, the technology trade association for Scotland, and on the Scottish board of The Financial Services Club, a networking and educational club aimed specifically at professionals operating in the financial services sector.

Nick is married to Margita and has three children, so spends most of his weekends following them around as the local taxi service. He has a passion for football and although his playing days are long past, he has a son and daughter that both play competitively. He likes a game of golf on the rare occasion that he gets the time to play.

A keen supporter of charitable causes, Nick has been involved in helping Cystic Fibrosis and Action for Children in recent years by taking part in a series of events, from abseiling off the Forth Rail Bridge to sleeping rough in a park to raise awareness of UK homeless children.

Jan Mutch

Jan joined Bright Purple in 1996 and has since held various positions within the company, from running the permanent recruitment division to operations director. Jan is the Key Accounts Director and her main focus is the development of all major accounts.

In her first recruitment role, Jan worked for IT specialist CSS where she set up a permanent division for the company in Scotland. Five years on she was headhunted by the Royal Bank of Scotland to handle resource management for its IT division before joining Bright Purple.

Jan is the most organised person at Bright Purple - she always seems to know where everything is and meeting deadlines is her speciality.

Apart from her full-on role within Bright Purple, Jan is also a full time mum to three great girls which keeps her fully occupied away from work. When she needs a break from the kids, she’s usually found walking her dog Archie on Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh.

Alastair Maclean

Alastair joined Bright Purple in 1997 after 13 years with the world leading technology consulting firm ICL. He is a graduate of Strathclyde University with a BA in Accountancy and also holds the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) qualification.

Alastair and his partner are big fans of Spain and all things Spanish. He has been taking intensive Spanish language lessons for a few years and has had plenty of practice - if he’s not visiting the country on holiday with his partner, he can often be found playing golf – his other big passion - in the Marbella region.

Peter Flaherty

Peter has over 20 years experience in the recruitment industry, managing start up and growth businesses. He was Managing Director and a major shareholder in MSB International Plc from 1991 to April 2001, growing it from a turnover of £4 million to £200 million and a stock market capitalisation of £210 million.

Peter is a past chairman of the Association of Technology Staffing Companies (ATSCo), the trade association for the IT recruitment sector which he co-founded with Bryan Lloyd, the former CEO of Spring IT. Today Peter and Brian are partners in the very successful Recruitment Investment Group and Peter is also Chairman of Keyman Personnel, a family business specialising in the recruitment of professional staff to the construction industry, which he founded in 1978. A Chartered Civil Engineer by profession, his earlier career was in the construction industry.

Neil Lafferty

Neil has over 20 years’ experience within the IT, recruitment and financial services sectors, where he has worked for a number of high profile clients including, Hewlett Packard (Compaq), Direct Alliance Corporation, Teletech & Kwik Fit Financial Services.

He started his recruitment sector career in 1997 with ASA International as a business development manager. His most recent role, prior to joining Bright Purple, was Group Sales Director for Rise Recruitment Group, part of Murray Capital.

As Sales Director, Neil is responsible for Bright Purple’s UK business development activity and is focused on the growth of its overall client base. He brings a wealth of senior management experience to this position having held a broad range of senior roles including, Head of Operations, Sales Director and Site Director during his career to date.

A native of Bellshill, Neil is married to Mandy and has two lovely daughters, Nicole and Megan. When he’s not working or spending time with the family he can usually be found following the fortunes of Celtic Football Club, of which he is a huge supporter, or playing racquet sports. He is also an active fund-raiser for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust in Scotland.




The Management Team

Mike Leeman - Financial Services Manager

Mike joined Bright Purple in 2009 to set up the company’s financial services division, concentrating on permanent and contract recruitment with a focus on risk, audit & regulatory, accountancy, change and project management, operations, client services and front office.

Prior to joining Bright Purple he held positions with one of the world’s largest recruitment companies, specialising in financial services sector in London and Scotland.

Outside of work Mike is a keen theatre-goer (having completed a degree in Drama at Bristol University alongside people such as Matt Lucas and Marcus Brigstocke), writing and performing himself when he has time. He is also keen on exploring all of Edinburgh’s restaurants and can often be found nursing a dram of Islay whisky on a Friday night.

Justin Willis - Sales Manager

Justin heads up Bright Purple’s London operation.

He started his career with Laser IT Search in 1994, specialising in investment banking sector recruitment. He then joined Millar Associates in 1996, also an investment banking technology recruitment specialist, where he helped rebuild the firm’s client base, winning several selection campaigns with major clients.

Justin was later head-hunted by technology recruitment specialists Maxwell Jamieson where he again played a pivotal role in rebuilding the brand, delivering a number of high profile searches in London and New York. A year later he joined the start-up of the London office for CSS Global, an American contingent recruitment practice where he established an executive search division. He was successful in bringing the first ever retained search and worked on a variety of senior international appointments.

In 2003 he set up his own business, Taranata which grew into a successful global recruitment operation with a variety of assignments in London, New York and Asia.

In 2010 Justin merged Taranata with Bright Purple with a focused aim of creating a thriving recruitment firm operating on both the UK and global stage.

Justin’s focus is almost purely work related and he therefore claims to have no time for hobbies - maybe in the next life Justin. For now it’s onwards and upwards in his quest of helping turn Bright Purple into a major player in international IT and Financial Services recruitment.

Iain Geddes – Business Manager Singapore/Asia

Iain joined the company in April 2011 to head our expansion into south-east Asia. Iain, who is based at Bright Purple’s Singapore office in the city’s prestigious UOB Plaza, is responsible for rolling out our full range of IT and financial services recruitment services to a number of key south-east Asian markets including Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Indonesia and Thailand.

Prior to joining Bright Purple, Iain spent 16 years as the director of IT resource solutions for one of the UK’s largest independent recruitment consultancies before moving to Thailand in 2009 to take on a global role with the Vinarco Group.

When he’s not working Iain enjoys the occasional game of golf and is still active on the ‘veterans’ rugby circuit.

Sarah Bald – Resourcing Manager

Sarah joined Bright Purple five years ago. She has worked her way up the ranks and is now our Resourcing Manager, taking responsibility for all resourcing operations within the company.

Having started her career in recruitment over 15 years ago, Sarah has worked in a number of different roles covering sectors such as IT, financial services and manufacturing. She has worked in various recruitment agencies, as well as recruitment advertising and media organisations and has also done a spell on-site with Scottish Equitable, in a recruitment management role.

Outside of work Sarah enjoys spending quality time with her partner, catching up with family and friends over a glass of wine, enjoying new restaurants, cooking and, her latest hobby, attending zumba dancing classes.

Derek Gibb – Head of Permanent Recruitment

Derek joined Bright Purple in July 2009 as Senior Consultant, quickly proving that he was a valuable and determined member of the team. In 2011 he was promoted to his current role where he is head of our permanent recruitment division.

Prior to joining Bright Purple, Derek launched his career at one of Europe’s largest IT recruitment firms.

Outside of work Derek enjoys going to the gym, playing football and socialising with his workmates.

Chris Murphy – Head of Test Recruitment

Chris joined Bright Purple in October 2009, initially as an IT resource consultant. He was soon promoted to full IT consultant, specialising in software testing. He was again promoted to Head of Test Recruitment which has now grown into a stand-alone division within Bright Purple’s infrastructure. He is in the process of completing his ISEB certification in software testing which he believes will give an extra edge in the development and growth of his team.

Prior to joining Bright Purple Chris started his career in the hospitality and tourism sector with the Sheraton Grand Hotel in Edinburgh. Chris worked his way up to the senior management team within four years while completing an honors degree in hospitality and tourism management.

Chris is a former amateur boxer and hurling champion, sports he continues to enjoy. He is also a keen football supporter and a keep fit enthusiast.
