What is an Interview?

An interview is a meeting for a two-way discussion and to exchange information. There are many types of interview;
  • Competency Based Interview
  • Panel Interview
  • Assessment Day (Here you will be assessed against a group of applicants on things such as team working, leadership etc. )
  • Technical Interview (ie. On-line Testing or Face to Face Questioning or In-house written test)
Interview Preparation

Congratulations if you have been selected to attend an interview. Here are a few useful points to guide you through a successful interview.
  • Gather as much information as possible from your Recruitment Consultant about the company - you need to do your homework so that you are fully prepared for any questions they put forward to you.
  • Do they have a web site? Your knowledge of the company will allow you to be one step ahead of your competition, who are also just as eager to get the job!
  • Arrive on time. Always leave enough time to get to the interview - arrive at least 10 minutes early. It can take time to sign in. If you are unfamiliar with the location, it is always wise to do a "dummy" run and find the exact location.
  • Interview format. Who are you meeting, how many people and what are their positions. Will it be a formal or informal interview, will there be any tests? Your Recruitment Consultant should provide you with this information.
  • Before the interview, think of questions that may be asked and how you would respond eg.

Why do you want to work for our organisation?
Why should you be selected for this position?
What unique qualities can you bring to our team?
Where do you see your career in the next 3-5 years?

  • Remember eye contact is important
  • Always have some questions of your own to ask eg.
Are you looking to grow any part of the company and how do you stay one step ahead of their competition?

Do you encourage internal career progression?
