IT Skill Shortage May Hurt Financial Sector's Recovery
Financial organisations forced to cut costs on key skills and personel to cope with the recession must now act quickly to replace the short-fall in skilled IT professionals.

Bright Purple - IT Recruitment

A serious lack in skilled and available IT professionals, coupled with a reluctance to invest in adequately training workers for recovery could hurt financial firms emerging from the damage wrought by the recession.

Recent research conducted by Parity shows that 49% of financial organisations claim they aren't worried about how they will re-skill and resource their IT team, and a further 34% have not begun planning yet. However, 39% predict that a lack of skilled people will impact upon their chances of success, with 48% having encountered difficulties when recruiting new staff in the past.

Finally, the research adds that 82% expect it to be difficult to find the right people, while 18% expect to settle for candidates with an incomplete skill set.

As ever, the speed with which companies can react and bring in the right skilled people will be a major determining factor in how quickly their organisation can successfully emerge from the recession. While financial organisations have been quick to cut costs in order to deal with the downturn, the resulting loss of key people and skills must be replaced by reacting quickly to bring in the resources needed to cope with the resurgent demand for their products and services as the economic situation recovers.
