Bright Purple takes part in guru lecture
On Friday the 16th of March two of our very own resourcers, Kevin Watters and Alex Pullen, were invited to present to high school students, giving advice on interviewing and networking techniques. The event was held at the new Tynecastle High School with pupils from Forrester and Liberton attending the session as part of a Careers Academy programme.

Bright Purple Wins Award Our aim was to explain and advise on the many different interview types and advise the pupils on how to prepare, perform and ultimately stand out from the crowd when it comes to applying for jobs. This included a detailed analysis of what we, as recruiters, look for when a conducting interviews. It was a mixture of their knowledge and life experiences which portrayed the relevant information in a way in which the pupils could understand and relate to.

We also touched on the subject of networking and explained how social media can be used to the students’ advantage. This included all forms of social media and outlined why it is important to connect with the right people who would be able to help them now and in the future. Dawn Dickson, Employment Law Partner at Lindsays Solicitors, then went on to describe her experience of networking including social events and business lunches and provided a great insight into how to conduct yourself and make the most out of the situation.

Kevin and Alex used a mixture of hand-outs, role play and PowerPoint slides to convey the information they had put together during the week. The pupils’ feedback was very positive, saying they particularly enjoyed the interactive aspect of the presentation.
