An amazing chance to work in the space industry, with world-class colleagues at an a brilliant start-up!

The team work largely remote, with no big demands made on set days per week, and a lot of flexibility in your schedule to ensure you can enjoy your work and give it your best without trying to juggle everything! So long as you are in commutable distance of one of their three offices (Edinburgh, Dundee, and Bristol - all central) so that you can come in if needs be, that is all we ask!

The development teams are split into two main areas, but work across different projects, collaborating regularly.

You'd typically be:
  • writing new feature code in "C"

  • working heavily in Linux

  • supporting existing codebase

  • establishing requirements

  • working with source control and CI/CD pipelines

  • documentation

  • planning mission projects

  • R&D work

So many cool companies are doing great work in software without the limelight - here at Bright Purple we want you to get excited and in the know like we are!

If you are a Software Engineer motivated by solving complex real-world challenges in an environment created for engineers by engineers, there won't be many opportunities that hold a candle to this...

In this role, you will be joining of the UK's leading space-tech start-ups, who have recently secured £millions of sustainable investment as rocket fuel (get the pun?) to their growth. Over the last decade, they've left the chasing pack behind to become industry leaders in the creation of in-flight and mission control software used at the heart of satellite missions for some of the leading Space Agencies, Research Organisations, and Academic Institutions.

Innovation and R+D will play a big part in your journey here. This means you'll be working almost entirely on new, customer-driven projects, whilst working to evolve the core product offering that has made this organisation so unique.

You'll be pushed to realise your potential, with senior management and the CTO actively encouraging new hires to pick up some of the most challenging project work, giving you influence and visibility from the get-go (one of the many benefits of working for a smaller organisation where everyone from the founders downwards is actively involved in software development).

As if this wasn't enough, they value worker representation and truly rewarding their developers for the great successes the company are experiencing. In practice, this means enrollment to their employee ownership scheme which gives you a voice on the board, and the promise of future dividends.

A great company pension scheme, excellent holidays, pretty much full remote, and flexible options around hours and part-time/full-time mean everything is geared to take the stress away from work and to enable you to enjoy your job whilst being successful.

Whilst we are open to a range of backgrounds and experiences, successful candidates have typically displayed the following:
  • Experience in and passion for the "C" language
  • Good knowledge of/interest in Linux
  • Creativity and problem solving (you won't be phased by the abstract, vague requirements, or trade-offs)
  • Full experience across the SDLC
  • Strong academic background including a solid Computer Science related degree, and possibly even further study
  • Experience on aviation, satellite, or real-time applications beneficial

If you think you have the skills and experience needed, why wait, when your career could be changing forever! Apply NOW with your latest CV or share this with the person you first think of!

Bright Purple is an equal opportunities employer: we are proud to work with clients who share our values of diversity and inclusion in our industry.
