Senior Software Engineer - Edinburgh, Hybrid
Deep beneath the seabed, in wells running to hundreds of degrees and thousands of PSI, our client's wireless telemetry keeps operators seeing clearly. Their downhole monitoring technology feeds real-time pressure and temperature data up from environments most electronics can't survive, and the software you'd be writing sits right at the centre of that: turning raw signal from the bottom of a well into the decisions engineers make on a rig thousands of miles away.
This is a genuinely global engineering business, still investing hard in R&D, looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help push that platform further. If you want your code solving hard, physical problems rather than shuffling data between screens, this is that role.
What's in it for you:
- Salary up to £65,000, depending on experience
- Hybrid working -3 days a week from a central Edinburgh office
- Private healthcare and life assurance
- Company pension scheme
- Real investment in your growth - our client puts importance into R&D and into the people doing it, so career development here isn't just a line in the handbook
The role:
- You'll own meaningful pieces of the product end to end. From capturing requirements and shaping the design, through to writing, testing and supporting the code that ships. You're not handed a spec and left to it: you'll be trusted to challenge requirements, propose better solutions, and defend your design decisions in review with developers who'll push you to do your best work.
- Because this software drives real hardware in real wells, you'll work closely with the Firmware team, the kind of cross-discipline collaboration that's rare in most software roles, and one of the reasons this job stays interesting. Expect a modern C#/.NET toolchain, containerised services, and the latitude to bring in new tools and techniques when they'll genuinely improve the team's output.
- It's a role that will stretch you, with a team around you that wants you to succeed.
What you'll bring:
- Strong experience with C#, .NET and Visual Studio
- A background in C/C++, or embedded software/firmware
- Familiarity with containerisation, web applications and database design
- Comfort estimating, documenting and defending your own designs
- Confident communication. You'll work directly with end users, not just other engineers
Why apply:
Our client values diversity and inclusion, and is genuinely committed to finding the right person for this role, not just the closest match on paper. If you're looking for software engineering with real technical depth and a tangible, physical outcome, we want to hear from you.
Apply now with your most up-to-date CV for consideration to take the next step in your career!
