Continuing our Development: Coding Session at Bright Purple.

If we knew how to code like the talented candidates that we help with their careers, we’d most likely be technologists ourselves! At Bright Purple, we recognise the importance of absolutely understanding the roles that we hire into, and with this in mind, the Bright Purple Academy set up an exciting course of CPD sessions focused on growing our knowledge and giving us all first-hand experience of writing some code.

Learning from the best

We’re fortunate to have an excellent network of incredibly talented and experienced technologists, none more so than Tahir Mahood and Reiss Cashmore, who boast impressive careers albeit at different stages of their journey. Tahir once worked for a Mr Gates! (Look these guys up!)
We were delighted to have them in the Bright Purple Academy to follow Tahir’s recent highly engaging, introduction session “Technology - War & Peace” with course part 2 – “Microservices & Practical Coding”.

The whole business was invited along to learn what code language looks like, what Microservices are and how it creates the online experiences that we all engage with in our modern lives.

Back to School!

Our Purple People gathered like high school students starting to learn a foreign language – except we were very eager to learn and the anecdotes that Tahir and Reiss used to explain things were more engaging and often funnier than stories of buying bread in La Rochelle!!

We all had our first go at coding using HTML, CSS and some moved along to Java Script. We were thrilled to have all managed to create functioning web pages!

We don’t claim to have suddenly mastered skills that are learned and honed over years of experience in the technology industry, but we certainly enjoyed it, and have a greater appreciation and understanding of our candidates. We can’t wait for the final session!

Here’s what some of the team thought…

“…Such a fantastic opportunity, which I thoroughly enjoyed.
It gave a real insight as to how the developers I recruit actually work, it also made me very aware as to the skillset needed and challenges faced by each programmer.”

Louise

“It is important to understand your clients’ needs inside out and I am glad that Bright Purple gives me not only this opportunity but also the prospect to add value to my experience and to be able to speak with my candidates and clients at the same level, having a clear understanding of how my candidates develop.
…. it was great! Before, speaking with the candidates and trying to find the best job fit for them was more based on my theoretical IT knowledge, but now, things have changed. Now I can relate my practical knowledge as well. At the end of the day, it is not just about finding a job for a candidate but it is about finding the right job and at the right company.”

Anastasia

“I have always believed the expression “knowledge is power” and I feel it’s important for us as recruiters to have an understanding of what our candidates do and what our clients need.
Being able to get hands on with coding while experts guided us allowed me to appreciate the talents of the candidates we work with. I thought it was a brilliant idea by Bright Purple to run the workshop as it will allow us to provide an even better service to our clients.“

Jamie

We are really looking forward to more sessions and opportunities for personal development in the future!
